Making Magic on the Mountain: Purposeful memoir as a portal to the transformative power of memory and imagination

September 23, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

There was a reason J.K. Rowling chose Mount Greylock, the highest mountain in Massachusetts, as the site for an American school of wizardry. Indeed, visionary writers like Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau always sought out the peak of Mount Greylock as a place of creative inspiration, and shamans the world over know and make use of the magic of mountaintops.

This fall, join memoirist and veteran teacher Jennifer Browdy on the mountain for an afternoon of magic-making, as we springboard from the stories of our lives into the realm of imaginative transformation.

We’ll start from the concrete and particular details of our life experiences, and then tap into the flowing possibilities of the imagination, exploring roads not taken and revisiting powerful moments where we allowed ourselves to be transformed—or resisted the invitation.

We’ll write not only about the past, but also about the present and the future, always moving from a sober assessment of what is to a joyful exploration of what could be.

Come write and share in good company, soaking in the magic of Mount Greylock!

Register here.

Pre-registration encouraged; walk-ins welcome. The workshop will run rain or shine at Bascom Lodge.
